Going To AIIMS, Check This

AIIMS is one of the best hospitals in India, that has been a great platform to produce the best doctors for the entire world.

AIIMS is famous for world class free treatment. But you need to keep in mind, that it's not so easy to get admitted in AIIMS for any treatment. Even if you get the admission, you will face lots of challenges to get the bed. Its better to have some high level connections.. Normally there is a long list for waiting of 1500 patient. We should avoid AIIMS, unless its an emergency and we should consider AIIMS as  "last resort of life".

When you go to AIIMS emergency , you will see a panel of doctors (Rejectors) who will decide the severeness of the patient's condition. If the patient can be cured with normal medication , you will be asked to bring the patient in General OPD and trust me it happens due to no beds available . Since AIIMS takes very serious patients, it is obvious that old patients are admitted for long term which is normal.

If you are planning to go to AIIMS from another hospital, you need to take the prior appointment with the doctor and understand their instructions properly. Its a myth, that the patients don't die in AIIMS. I have witnessed the functioning of AIIMS for a serious issue of my family member, for 45 days and I have seen multiple cases where patient is declared "no more". You need to be ready with every consequences ... Do inform the patient's family members from very first moment the patient gets admitted, if you are not a family member of the patient.

If you really want to save the life of your patient, you need to be ready with every condition and situation. AIIMS is the place, where deadly viruses are found in the premises that arrives from all the corners of India. So its better that you get a health insurance (do it online quickly) for yourself as a backup and have a mask on your mouth, so that you won't get infected easily.

You also need to keep in mind about other aspect of Aims, which can create a problem for you or your patient.

Humidity and temperature control is a same kind of aspect. Though hospital is cleaned every 2 hour or so. Still you need to bear with noise, suffocation, smell and humid environment all the times.

Deal with guards : when a patient gets admitted, multiple attendants always try to be around the patient but AIIMS has very strict rule, one Attendant is allowed and every guard does follow the same . Be clear and don't try to argue with anyone. If you do, you may need to face the bouncers who do not listen to anyone.

Doctors : Doctors are treated as GOD and in AIIMS, they are actually. Very professional and ready to deal with any consequences. Normally doctors are extremely busy and they don't get to sleep for several hours and due to this, they gets frustrate which is a human tendency. So you need to ensure in mind, that they are always ready to save your patient. Its your responsibility to HAVE  an eye on your patient. It's not possible for a doctor to be available, for all the queries all the times.

Nurses : nursing staff in AIIMS is very professional and they work as they want. Males are more understanding, than females . When you call a sister for any help, you need to be polite and if they shouts on you .. Be quite and sorry, even if you did not commit any mistake... After all you need your patient well. Follow the instructions properly, when these are given either by doctors or by nursing staff.

Need to be proactive : don't sit idle and wait for anyone to come and help your patient. When your patient needs immediate help, raise an alarm .. It may be the last moment for your patient . Keep on doing some research in Google ... Ask as many questions as you can, but ask politely from doctor ... 50% of entire process will be done by you. Like helping your patient with food , cleaning diapers, emptying urine bags and other liquids,  patient's exercise etc.

Since AIIMS is almost free .. Try to arrange  things by your own, whenever it is asked by nursing staff or doctors. There may be a chance that few medicines will not be available and it will be required to arrange them immediately, so you need to be ready at all the times. Please keep in Mind, that medical stores are 15 minutes away from AIIMS premises. So you will need 30 minutes, for going and coming back. Make sure that there should be someone always available with the patient all the time, if your patient is serious. You can also request from someone to bring your medicines, who is going to take the medicines for his patient. AIIMS is the place, where normally no one fights... After all everyone is in hell... If still not available , please try to order it online with www.daizyhome.com .. Which is an aggregator company for medicals.

One Attendant allowed : its a strict rule in AIIMS that only one attendant is allowed with the patient , so don't expect more and no fights with guards. After all he is doing his work and we need to appreciate, everyone's sincerity.

Mobile theft : since AIIMS is a place where people comes with different mindset and culture, and they may pick up your belongings .. Its your responsibility to safeguard your belongings, from unwanted people.

Clothing : normally when patient gets admitted , he/she will will be given a pair of kurta and pajama with bedsheet... And every patient is required to take, 2 pairs of kurta pajama with a bedsheet per day. 50% chance is that you will not be able to get those things , its important to arrange use and throw bedsheets and kurta pajama as a reserve. So that when you don't get from hospital, you can save your patient from panicking  in wet and infected situations. First try to get from the nursing staff, then you can use your own.

Diapers change: this is very important aspect of life .. You may not have changed or used diapers ever in your life. But when your patient is admitted in AIIMS , you need to do it without any questions and hesitation, and most of the attendants do it. I have seen a Muslim father, who did not change the diaper of his 17 years old daughter (a very serious patient) and when she died, then he regretted badly.

Eatables : food is  consistent in AIIMS but if you don't get, it means doctor did not permit .. Do ask from doctor. Doctors also suggest light food .. Liquid diet for better digestion . You can make from your home or you can order online ...

Gratitude: we have a tendency to wish a person, who does good for us. In the similar way, we do wish to doctors and nursing staff. But trust me , I never got any responses from any doctor and it seemed to me that they always do some kind of calculation in their mind .. Or to remember schedules ... They work like robot and always in rush to impress their superior, to pass some kind of exam.

Important stuff: when you get bed for admission , you may require few things to survive in AIIMS ... Like 3 steel Katori , one big steel plate, a steel spoon, scrubber, liquid wash to clean,  Towel, Tooth paste and brush,  lock ,mobile holder, charger, nail cutter, knife and disposable glasses.

Take rest: Take as much rest as you can, with the patient. As in every 2 hours or so, sweeper will wake you up to clean the floor in night and in day time. You need to complete your sleep schedule in installments, noise won't let u sleep at a stretch.

How to take admission : this is a very tricky question and its not in our hand. Normally treatments are being done in very rushed emergency lobby and if there is a need of admission, doctors do try their best. Doctors are there only to treat patient and bribe never works there. Only, request is our ammunition to shoot. There is a waiting of 1500 patient in the queue.

How to take bed : This is the biggest problem in AIIMS. You may get permission to get admission but if there is no bed, you patient will not be admitted. You may need to wait for a long time. Remember, there is no benefit to get your patient admitted forcefully and you are not going to pay anything to any doctor and there is no "patient to doctor ratio" like other hospitals, which only do business and give you treatment and pleasure in lieu of money.

Portable stool: there is very little space in AIIMS to sit, you will be asked to leave the space multiple times from various people. It is important that you have portable stool, so that you can sit whenever you get chance.

Xray MRI holder : you may have big scanner or x-ray. So you need a proper holder to save the films and present them, when doctors ask.

Gloves: it is always needed when you do cleaning and it's not possible to get it from the hospital.. So you need to have a pack of gloves, as a reserve. In order to use them, when you don't get it from hospital.

Mask: its needed most of the times initially. Then after sometime you won't use it continuously due to habit and you will only use it, when you change the diapers.

Room spray : mostly just after diaper change, you may need a little fragrance but not much as other patients or their attendants can object to that.

Hand wash: it is always needed when you do cleaning, or just before having lunch or breakfast. Make sure that you have the small pack hand wash, to keep it handy.

Mosquito Repellent : though sweepers clean the pemises in every 2 hour, still mosquito are there. As this is an open area with electronic gates open and closes, frequently. You need to have odomos or any other ointment, to save yourself from any kind of added trouble.

Save from mouses: there is a chance to have mouse in the premises, save your document and belongings as well.

How to sleep : you will get very less time to sleep properly. It's better to have some relatives in Delhi  or hotel to take rest . There are several "rain basesras" (night shelters) available in a very nominal cost just next to Aims, which are almost free. You may get a portable sofa cum bed (inflatable),  which u can inflate outside the ward and deflate when not in use .

Eat : you need to have proper meal , either you can bring from home or order online. Make sure you hide the delicious food from patient, AS THEY WILL BE EATING tasteless food.

Dead body : it may happen that you may have not seen a dead body near you. But accept the truth that if someone has taken birth, he will be gone one day. In the similar way , you may see numerous dead body near your patient. So please don't panic. You need to deal with the situation and be ready to eat your food, and live with the dead body lying besides which is normal in AIIMS.

Season effect: as per different season , you may have to feel different kind of smell around you. Mostly in summers , a bad smell always occurs.

Portable fan: You may need a portable battery fan for yourself, which can help you in case fan is not reachable to the place where you are bound to sleep.

Fight with ego / life: if you have reached to AIIMS , it means it must be a serious condition. So your primary motto should be your patient's wellness. You need to forget  ego, hesitation which will help you to cure your patient as early as possible.

Be communicative : you need to be more communicative, so that you can talk to multiple people when you get bored . This will help you for bringing medicines, monitor your patient in your absence or sleep and to have a good bonding with other attendants.

Patient expires: when any patient expires, it's of no use for hospital. They will ask the attendant to sign on required documents and to collect the death certificate later. They quickly pack the dead body, with in 10 minutes. System is designed in such a commercial way, that attendants don't get enough time to even cry .
